Emotional sci-fi visual novel ‘Battery Note’, Korean edition released on Steam

    By Editorial Team2026년 04월 16일4 Mins Read

The Korean version of the sci-fi adventure game ‘BatteryNote’, developed by Japanese indie game developer 72 Studios, was officially released on Steam on April 16.

Battery Note is a sci-fi adventure game where you spend your final moments with three robots found in a junkyard, with the plot unfolding differently depending on your choices. Within a limited battery, players converse with the robots or conduct experiments, confronting their memories and emotions. The game is characterized by a multi-ending structure that leaves a deep impression despite its short playtime, as well as restrained direction.

Three robots met at a junkyard, spending their final moments together

The player starts the game as a mechanic who has woken up from cryogenic sleep. In a dark and narrow maintenance room, the player discovers three malfunctioning robots and uses charging equipment to revive them. Afterward, the player can delve into their memories through conversation or test their reactions by applying a stronger current.

Each robot is destined to eventually shut down as it has only a limited amount of battery power remaining. The flow and ending of the story change depending on how the short remaining moments are used.

The three robots each have their own unique stories. JSCA is a playful robot abandoned after working as a diner waitress, while Devind R7 is a proud soldier robot haunted by memories of the battlefield. Servey is a cheerful surveillance robot unable to let go of the past, hiding a hidden pain.

Between kindness and cruelty, the ending changed by choice

Once you select a robot, you can converse with it or apply an electric current to observe its reaction within a limited time. The robot’s response varies depending on whether you treat it kindly or coldly, and the player’s decisions influence not only the robot’s fate but also the ending. You can unlock all endings by replaying scenes or focus on making the robot happy.

Retro-style pixel graphics, and an OST composed by the developer

The game is produced in a 4-color pixel art style reminiscent of the 90s Game Boy Color, capturing both a sci-fi atmosphere and emotional weight within the narrow space of a dark maintenance room.

Battery Note’s poignant and emotional OST was composed by the developer, 72 Studio, and can be purchased separately on Steam or enjoyed as part of a bundle. Both the sound and visuals are praised for lyrically expressing the theme of saying goodbye to a robot within an extremely restrained minimalism.

The solo developer’s philosophy and publisher collaboration

72 Studio is a one-person Japanese indie game developer who creates games as a ‘serious hobby’ in addition to their main job. They handle all elements alone, from scenarios and programming to visuals and sound. Influenced by media from their childhood where human and non-human characters coexisted and shared friendship, they have consistently released works that deal with the interaction between the player and various beings.

Room6 is a Japanese indie game publisher known for releasing distinctive indie titles such as ‘Unreal Life’ and ‘Rogue with Dead,’ and is recognized for its collaborations with studios that aim for original and immersive experiences. This latest title is also considered a prime example of the two companies’ directions aligning well, as it is an emotion-driven indie game.

Positive reviews and growing domestic response

On Steam, Battery Note maintains a ‘Very Positive’ rating, recording a 100% positive rating out of 171 user reviews. In the Steam community, a review stating, “It is the perfect game for when you need a short, sweet experience, and it is a surprisingly heartwarming game,” is gaining high traction.

Time Extension introduced it as an eye-catching and original work, noting its Game Boy Color-like graphics and ‘shocking’ premise, while RPGFan introduced it as a work worth recommending to genre fans, paying attention to its 4-color pixel art aesthetics and multiple ending structure.
