Nile flooding, terraforming, and monument construction added, along with a free map editor and Steam Workshop integration.
German indie developer Bitfall Studios released the first major expansion pack , ‘Ancient Egypt DLC’, for its healing city puzzle game ‘TerraScape’ on Steam on March 9th.
Build a kingdom on a floating island in the cozy city puzzle game “TerraScape.”
Terrascape is a cozy city puzzle game that entered Early Access in 2023 and officially launched in July 2024. Players strategically place buildings on floating islands to grow their kingdom.
Each building generates points based on the influence of surrounding buildings, natural resources, and the environmental terrain (biome). Combining buildings in specific patterns creates “Merged Buildings,” which have powerful effects.
The game is designed for leisurely enjoyment, with no time limits or failure screens. It offers a variety of modes, including single-player Kingdom Mode, scenarios, puzzle levels, and up to four-player cooperative and competitive multiplayer.
It has a ‘very positive’ rating with 88% of the approximately 1,900 reviews on Steam, and its Steambase player score is currently at 90.
New civilization, new strategies… Ancient Egyptian civilization added to DLC
The Ancient Egypt DLC departs from the traditional medieval European kingdom-building style and introduces a new theme: ancient Egyptian civilization . Beyond a mere cosmetic change, it adds new systems specific to Egyptian civilization, deepening strategic play.
The most crucial system is the “Dynamic Seasonal Flooding of the Nile.” The Nile floods seasonally, transforming the landscape and sometimes even sweeping away buildings. Conversely, flooding also creates fertile land, providing opportunities for urban expansion. Gamers must master this natural flow as a key strategic element.
Terraforming also allows you to transform barren deserts into farmland and secure new residential areas. Combining multiple buildings in specific patterns creates a massive monument, known as a “Monument,” which activates various perks and bonuses that impact the entire game.
Additionally, the DLC adds new Egyptian-themed biomes, buildings, animals, and an Egyptian-style map with a unique elevation ratio.
The development team said that they refined the development direction through the DLC preview play and community feedback at gamescom, and that gamers’ ideas increased the completeness of this content.
Free update… Map editor and Steam Workshop integration
The free update distributed alongside the DLC also stands out. Key features include the Terra-Map Editor** and Steam Workshop integration. Gamers can create custom maps and share them with other players via the in-game browser and subscription system.
This is expected to significantly expand the user-created content-centric play environment, such as downloading community-created maps or designing new puzzle challenges.
This update, which includes new civilization themes, systems, and player-created content, promises to be a turning point, further expanding the world of Terrascape. The unpredictable city-building possibilities brought about by the Nile’s floods, and the new puzzle maps created by the community, are expected to bring even more fun and excitement.
The Ancient Egypt DLC is currently available on Steam for $9.99 (with a 10% launch discount), and requires the original game to play. A bundle of the original game and DLC is available for new players at a 25% discount.
