Gyeonggi Province will host the ‘2025 Play Expo’, the largest game culture festival in the metropolitan area, at KINTEX 1st Exhibition Center in Goyang for four days from May 22 to 25. This event will be held under the theme of ‘Games, Beyond’ and will be a place of communication where the whole family can enjoy and share creative experiences.
Play Expo is a place to share the latest trends in the game industry and expand exchanges between domestic and international companies and consumers. It widely promotes the value and potential of games through various programs that visitors can experience firsthand.
This year, we will present even richer content with the participation of major domestic and international game companies such as Neowiz and Supercell. Major programs include the announcement of new works by Daewon Media, Neowiz Indie Game Showcase, Steam Deck Demonstration Lounge, and co-hosting of the Gyeonggi International Cosplay Festival (GICOF) Korea Competition.
The eSports Festival stage will feature a variety of games, including a disabled eSports competition, a national campus competition, an event match to discover domestic sports, and a family competition. The family competition can be registered in advance or on-site, allowing more spectators to participate.
The opening match of the ‘Eternal Return’ league, one of the categories of the ‘2025 Esports Regional League (tentative name)’ hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, which will be launched in May, will be held from May 23rd to 24th. The opening match is expected to present high-level matches to domestic esports fans and further raise the atmosphere of the event.
Business matching for small and medium-sized indie game companies preparing to enter the overseas market will also be expanded. Starting this year, instead of charging a certain participation fee to participating companies, we will provide practical opportunities such as support for linking online and offline businesses, in-depth user testing (FGT), demo days, and consultations with game investment companies. Developers can maximize on-site promotional effects by operating game demonstrations and promotional booths during the weekend exhibition period.
Accessibility has also been greatly improved. With the opening of the GTX-A line, the travel time from major areas of the metropolitan area to KINTEX has been shortened, making it more convenient to visit. The province strongly recommended using public transportation, saying that the parking lot at the first exhibition hall was closed due to construction of the third exhibition hall.
Pre-registration is available from April 1 to May 20 on the official website (www.playx4.or.kr), and free admission is available with pre-registration. Pre-registration allows for faster entry and various guidance. For more information, contact the Play Expo Exhibition Office (031-995-8237).
Bae Young-sang, head of the Digital Innovation Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, “Play Expo is a game culture festival representing Gyeonggi Province, and this year, we plan to provide visitors with a new experience with the largest-ever program and a variety of attractions.” He added, “We will prepare it as a space that stimulates creativity and imagination beyond games, so that it can be a joyful memory for everyone.”
