- Strengthening the Game Level Up Showcase (GLS) brand and promoting continued support for K-indie games
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Yoo In-chon) and the Korea Creative Content Agency (Acting President Yoo Hyun-Seok, hereinafter referred to as KOCCA) will participate in Korea’s most significant game exhibition, ‘G-STAR 2024’, and operate a joint booth for the ‘Game Level Up Showcase 2024 (hereinafter referred to as GLS 2024)’ to promote excellent Korean indie games at BEXCO in Busan from the 14th to the 17th.
The GLS 2024 joint booth will exhibit 10 startup indie games selected as the target of the KOCCA Game Planning Support Project. In addition, G-STAR, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, will present a large number of new games that are attracting attention both domestically and internationally by setting up a total of 3,281 booths, including 2,364 booths in the B2C Hall and 917 booths in the B2B Hall.
◆ GLS 2024 Joint Pavilion, 40 Booths to Showcase 10 Excellent Domestic Startup Indie Games
Last year, KOCCA participated in G-STAR with 20 booths and successfully showcased six indie games. This year, due to the game industry’s demand and the public’s response, the booth will be doubled to 40 booths. Through this GLS 2024 joint booth, we plan to further publicize the potential and possibilities of excellent domestic indie games by promoting them and activating their businesses.
The works participating in the joint exhibition are ▲Gino Games ‘Hello Seoul – Itaewon Edition’ ▲Lighters ‘THANKS, LIGHT’. ▲Sun Games ‘Light Odyssey ▲Bridge Music ‘DODORI’ ▲Triple Games ‘V.E.D.A.’ ▲Drabbit Studio ‘Soulers’ ▲Jippang Games ‘Haitai: Guardians’ ▲Odyssey ‘Velaster’ ▲Studio Dudal ‘Solateria’ ▲Project Cloud Games ‘The Relic: First Guardian’.
In addition to the indie game exhibition, various on-site events will be held. Stage programs such as game introductions and demonstrations, mini-game competitions, and stamp rally events are being prepared. In particular, in the game introduction and demonstration program, ▲ Geumgeuldan ‘KILLA’ ▲JJ Games ‘ZXC’ ▲Black Guardian ‘Vending Machine Hero’ ▲BBB ‘Monowave’, which are preliminary startup projects of the 2024 game planning support project, are expected to participate and communicate with indie game fans.
Kim Nam-geol, head of the Game Technology Division at KOCCA, said, “Through our participation in the GLS 2024 joint pavilion, we will actively support domestic indie games and startups to promote their originality and further increase their competitiveness in the global market.”
Meanwhile, starting with the indie game festival BitSummit held in Tokyo, Japan, in July, KOCCA has been expanding its support activities by linking the ‘Game Level Up Showcase (GLS)’ with domestic and international game events with high recognition. It also plans to continue supporting the commercialization and promotion of Korean indie game developers through the ‘Game Level Up Showcase (GLS)’ scheduled exclusively at SJ Kunsthalle in Gangnam, Seoul, from December 4 to 6.
