The Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Seoul Economic Promotion Agency (SBA, CEO Kim Hyun-woo) announced that they are recruiting companies to participate in the 2023 Tokyo Game Show Seoul Pavilion (Game SHOW BOX), which will be held in Tokyo, Japan, at the end of September, by July 17.

The Seoul Pavilion is scheduled to be created in the indie game exhibition area of the Tokyo Game Show exhibition hall. Through systematic diagnosis by game industry experts, excellent game companies and publishers with competitiveness in the local market are discovered and supported to enter the overseas market.

The Tokyo Game Show is one of the world’s top three game shows held in Japan every year since 1996, and this year it will be held at Makuhari Messe from September 21st to 24th.

As this year’s event is held after the end of COVID-19, the Seoul Pavilion was created to directly help excellent Seoul companies enter the Japanese market for four days. The Seoul Pavilion will be operated throughout the business day and public day schedule of the Tokyo Game Show. It will be created as an exhibition hall where business meetings and game demonstrations can be held simultaneously.

Companies participating in the 2023 Tokyo Game Show Seoul Pavilion will have an exhibition space, a separate business meeting space and facilities, and various pre- and on-site support to attract local buyers and visitors.

It supports pre- and on-site business matching with buyers such as local investors and publishers and meetings with leading overseas companies, associations, and organizations. It promotes participating companies and content online and offline, such as directory book production. Manpower for operation and business response, such as interpretation and translation, will also be provided to help exhibitors focus on business and publicity. Any game developer, team, or publisher based in Seoul with global service capabilities can apply for the 2023 Tokyo Game Show Seoul Pavilion project.

For this support, ten companies will be selected through a written screening process using a game content diagnosis kit for applicants. Game content diagnosis is conducted for all applicant companies, and expert feedback is provided upon request. A diagnosis committee composed of industry experts such as publishers/developers/VCs/academics examines game companies’ success factors such as competitiveness, suitability, readiness, and strategy.

As this project aims to support Seoul-based game companies and publishers’ global expansion, including the local Japanese market, additional points are provided to companies with games with Japanese and English builds. In addition, extra points are applied to those who have received support from the SBA for the past two years or are resident companies of the Seoul Game Contents Center.

Jeon Dae-hyeon, head of the content division at the Seoul Economic Promotion Agency, said, “We created the Seoul Pavilion at the Tokyo Game Show this year to reflect the demand from game companies. We will contribute to the revitalization of the game industry.”
