- A colorful pixel art shooter where Brazilian street culture meets cheerful humor
- Following the release on Steam and Xbox earlier this year, it has expanded to PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2.
- Maintaining a 94% ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam… New gameplay trailer also released
Indie developer Fogo Games and publisher Nuntius Games from São Paulo, Brazil, announced that the colorful pixel art top-down shooter ‘Ghetto Zombies: Graffiti Squad’ will be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 on August 27.
‘Ghetto Zombies’ was first released on Steam and Xbox platforms last January, and with this console release, it will reach even more users. Along with the announcement of the release date, a new gameplay trailer featuring fast-paced action and spectacular gameplay was also unveiled.
A Brazilian-inspired zombie shooter that reclaims the city through graffiti
‘Ghetto Zombies’ is a game inspired by the classic top-down shooter ‘Zombies Ate My Neighbors’, and it creates a distinctive atmosphere by adding Brazil’s unique street culture and individuality.
Players choose one of four mutant teenagers—Vinny, Kart, Pabang, and Duda—and must reclaim a zombie-infested city through graffiti. As graffiti is completed on the walls, the zombies swarm in more fiercely, and a powerful boss appears at the end, requiring quick reflexes and strategic combat.
From shark shotguns to ketchup launchers… Over 70 unique weapons
Each character in the game has a different combat style, and players can freely choose the direction of weapon and skill enhancement.
The game features weapons with unique concepts, such as a shark-shaped shotgun, a ketchup launcher, and a witch’s broom. Players can enjoy cool action by turning zombies into green jelly using over 70 types of weapons across 6 categories.
The content features a campaign consisting of a total of four chapters, along with an infinite training room where enemies appear randomly. It is characterized by the ability to test various weapon combinations and combat styles through repeated play.
A unique atmosphere blending Brazilian street culture and pixel art
As ‘Ghetto Zombies’ uses graffiti as its core subject matter, its most attractive feature is the colorful pixel art.
The direction reminiscent of comic books, the vibrant atmosphere unique to the outskirts of a Brazilian city, and a humorous sensibility combine to create a distinctive world.
However, while some overseas media highly praised the unique art style and distinct Brazilian sensibility, they also pointed out shortcomings such as the gameplay structure not changing significantly between the beginning and the end and the somewhat lacking narrative depth.
An indie project that started on the outskirts of São Paulo
Pogo Games is an indie studio founded by developers from Carapicuíba, São Paulo, Brazil. Starting from an academic background, they have built their presence by consistently showcasing works that combine creativity, style, and local identity.
‘Ghetto Zombies’ is the studio’s largest project, incorporating the culture and identity of the outskirts of various cities around the world into the game, based on inspiration from the actual outskirts of São Paulo.
This console launch is also expected to be an important step in continuing the global journey together with publisher Nuntius Games, which has been introducing Brazilian indie games to the world market.
Consistently ‘very positive’ reviews on Steam
“Ghetto Zombies,” which was first released on Steam and Xbox last January, currently maintains a “Very Positive” rating, with 94% of the 78 Steam user reviews being positive. The free demo released prior to launch also recorded positive ratings from 88% of the 27 reviews.
The development team continues to gather user feedback through the official Discord and release updates. Ahead of the console launch, they are encouraging users to add to their wishlists and follow the official channel, building anticipation for future content.
Attention is focused on whether ‘Ghetto Zombies: Graffiti Squad,’ featuring Brazilian street culture, graffiti, and unique pixel art, will be able to continue its acclaim on console platforms on August 27.
