New Video Released for Mexican Indie’s Y2K Snowboarding Love Letter ‘Hyper Yuki’

    By Editorial Team2026년 05월 28일5 Mins Read
    • New Y2K arcade snowboarding title with SSX and Jet Set Radio vibes… First meeting Japanese audiences at BitSummit 2026
    • Combining 90s animation sensibility with extreme sports energy… Stylish action racing set on a snowy landscape

Mexican indie studio Wabisabi Games and publisher Acclaim, Inc. have released a new gameplay trailer for the new arcade snowboarding game , ‘HYPERyuki: Snowboard Syndicate’ .

This video was first unveiled at the Latin America Games Showcase held last May, and was subsequently screened at BitSummit 2026, where it met with Japanese audiences. The game is scheduled for release on major platforms including PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch, but the exact release date has not yet been announced.

Individual riders speeding down the slopes… Style-focused arcade snowboarding

Hyper Yuki is an arcade snowboarding game where you become a member of a syndicate of unique snowboarders and race across colorful snow slopes. The new trailer encapsulates the game’s signature explosive energy by showcasing steep tracks, daring aerial tricks, and a distinctive character lineup.

The customization elements are particularly eye-catching. Players can unlock new board designs and outfits through exploration and racing to create a rider with their own unique style. The fun of expressing fashion and individuality is just as much a core element as the trick performance.

A representative example showcasing the game’s sense of humor is the character ‘Conscious Snowboarding Taco’. The setting, which freely crosses between reality and individuality, symbolically reveals the unique atmosphere of the work.

A modern reinterpretation of SSX and Jet Set Radio sensibilities

Hyper Yuki is presented as a modern tribute to extreme sports games from the late 1990s to the early 2000s.

The sense of speed and exaggerated style evoke the classic snowboarding game ‘SSX’, while the street culture, intense colors, and graffiti vibe strongly reflect the influence of ‘Jet Grind Radio (Jet Set Radio)’.

Overseas media outlets described it as “a work that modernizes the sensibility that SSX and Jet Set Radio fans have been waiting for.”

The visuals also catch the eye with their strong individuality. The vivid color palette and anime-style character designs actively borrow the sensibilities of 90s Japanese animation, visually emphasizing the sense of speed and the excitement of trick action. Furthermore, the musical composition, combining J-pop, funk, and electronic sounds, blends naturally with the high-speed downhill racing.

Supports everything from challenges and exploration to 8-player multiplayer.

The game offers four main modes to accommodate different play styles.

In Challenge Mode, you can compete for the top spots on the leaderboard by riding rails, collecting items, and performing high-difficulty tricks. In Race Mode, charge your boost gauge with tricks and compete against NPCs or online players for a balance of speed and style.

A Chill mode has also been prepared for users who prefer a relaxed gameplay style. It focuses on the experience of freely exploring near-infinite tracks and discovering hidden elements.

Multiplayer is also supported. You can race across the snowy plains with friends in various ways through online play for up to 8 players and local split-screen functionality.

“A Tribute to Japanese Culture”… The Special Significance for Mexican 90s Kids

Anardo Noriega, CEO and co-founder of Wabisabi Games, shared his long-standing affection for Japanese culture in his remarks on attending BitSummit.

He stated, “As a Mexican ‘90s kid,’ I grew up watching Japanese animation and constantly playing Japanese games,” adding, “Being able to showcase our games to Japanese audiences through BitSummit feels like a true ‘full circle’ moment.”

He also added in an interview, “It is meaningful for players who remember games from the 90s and early 2000s to feel nostalgia, but it is even more rewarding to see a new generation who did not experience that era firsthand feeling the same joy.”

Wabisabi Games, creators of the RKGK graffiti rebellion, join forces with Acclaim

Wabisabi Games is a development team based in Latin America with over 13 years of experience in game development and augmented reality. They gained attention in the graffiti-based 3D platformer genre with their previous work, ‘RKGK / Rakugaki’, and are now expanding into the arcade sports genre with ‘Hyper Yuki’.

Publisher Acclaim is also drawing attention. Founded in 1987, Acclaim is a publisher that previously released famous franchises such as ‘Mortal Kombat’, ‘Turok’, and ‘NBA Jam’. It has recently returned to the industry after revamping its brand with the goal of supporting indie developers and global publishing.

In the current market environment where arcade-style snowboarding games are rare, attention is focused on whether ‘HyperYuki: Snowboard Syndicate’ can establish itself as a new flagship title in extreme sports by combining Y2K aesthetics with a modern sensibility.
