- The Concept: A “Maze-Builder Roguelite” where you play as the fabled Minotaur.
- The Hook: Actively redesign your sanctuary in real-time to trap, confuse, and devour greedy adventurers.
- The Pedigree: Developed by Artificer (Sumerian Six, Showgunners) and published by indie giant Devolver Digital.
- Release Window: Launching on PC (Steam) in Spring 2026.
The hunters are coming for your head, but they didn’t count on you being the architect of their demise. During the recent IGN Fan Fest 2026, Devolver Digital and developer Artificer dropped an extended look at Minos, a strategic roguelite that flips the classic dungeon-crawler script on its head.
Redefining Labyrinth Defense
In Minos, you step into the hooves of the legendary Asterion (The Minotaur). Unlike traditional tower defense games where you simply place units and watch, Minos requires a more hands-on approach to architectural cruelty.
- Labyrinth Manipulation: You can move walls, lock doors, and rotate entire passages. The goal isn’t just to stop intruders, but to lead them into elaborate “Kill Zones.”
- Chain Reaction Traps: Connect pressure plates to cascades of spikes, rolling boulders, and fire traps. The more “hopeful” a hero feels before their doom, the more resources you gain.
- Direct Control: If a particularly stubborn hero (like a certain Theseus) gets too close to your heart, you can take direct third-person control of the Minotaur to handle the business personally.
Mythology with a Twist
Beyond the gore and gears, Minos promises a deep narrative layer. According to Game Director Kacper Szymczak, players will uncover the tragic relationship between the Minotaur and his creator, Daedalus. As you progress, you’ll discover what drove the creation of the maze and eventually make a world-altering choice: who actually deserves to leave the Labyrinth alive?

“They’ve heard stories of a monster in the dark. What they don’t know is that you are the one who built the dark.”
The Minos demo was a standout during the February Steam Next Fest, and with the full release just around the corner this spring, the “bull” market for indie strategy is looking stronger than ever.
