- A heartwarming farm fantasy set in a fairytale world, depicting the bond between humans and dragons.
- 86,000 items on the wishlist, existing Steam demo rating ‘Very Positive’
Kazakhstani indie studio Wild Forest Studio and publisher Curve Games have released a new trailer for the fantasy farm simulation ‘Dragon Shelter’ and announced that they plan to release a new updated demo on June 5.
Dragon Shelter is a work that deals with the rediscovery of the forgotten relationship between humans and dragons. It portrays a warm world where humans live together with unique dragons while interacting with them during the process of rebuilding an old farm and restoring the village.
The game is characterized by naturally combining seasonal farming, exploration, cooking, and relationship-building elements to convey a sentiment of ‘coexistence and healing,’ going beyond a simple simulation.
A heartwarming farm story depicting the coexistence of humans and dragons
Dragon Shelter is a farm simulation game set in a fantasy world. Players take on the role of a protagonist tasked with restoring the lost friendship between humans and dragons, and must rebuild their grandfather’s dilapidated farm into a “sanctuary for everyone.” While cultivating crops, harvesting resources, and engaging in various production activities, restoring the devastated village and nature is also a core objective.
In particular, communion with dragons serves as the most important element in this work. As you build relationships with and care for dragons possessing diverse abilities and personalities, they grow into reliable companions who use magic for the village and its people. As relationships with the residents deepen, the village gradually regains its vitality, unfolding into a peaceful landscape where humans and dragons coexist in harmony.
Hand-drawn fairytale-like visuals, a world inspired by Slavic mythology
One of the most appealing aspects of Dragon Shelter and the game’s greatest strength is its warm, hand-drawn art style. The vibrant colors and detailed environmental design provide an immersive experience, making it feel as if you are directly experiencing a fairytale world.
Inspired by Slavic mythology and the mystique of the Carpathian region, the worldview evokes a fairytale-like atmosphere. The environment and gameplay change with the seasons, such as snow accumulating on the fields, and the types of crops that can be cultivated and the dragons that appear also vary.
The cooking system also catches the eye. Players complete various dishes by going through multiple processes such as grinding, cutting, and mixing ingredients, and the charming sound effects and warm-toned soundtrack further enhance the game’s overall ‘healing’ atmosphere.
The potential of the highly anticipated work proven by a single short video
According to the developer, Dragon Shelter garnered attention at Wholesome Direct 2024 by achieving 12,000 wishlist items in just one day with only a 10-second video. This achievement is particularly significant as it was accomplished without any separate marketing or publisher. The cumulative wishlist is currently reported to be 86,000.
The existing demo released on Steam also achieved a ‘Very Positive’ rating, with 93% of the 151 reviews being positive. Users highly praised the art style and emotional presentation, and also expressed their hope to enjoy the interaction with the dragons even more deeply.
Overseas media outlets are also citing it as a highly anticipated title, evaluating it as having “established a distinctive appeal through the unique element of bonding with dragons, even amidst the crowded healing farm simulation market.”
Two years of independent development, and expansion into the global market
Wild Forest Studio is a Kazakhstan-based indie developer that completed a demo after about two years of independent development. CEO Sergey Kornilov, who led the development, stated, “The support of the community was the biggest driving force that allowed us to continue the project.”
Subsequently, a foundation for entering the global market was established through a publishing contract with Curve Games, and the publisher also introduced the title as “one of the most exciting and innovative cozy games of 2026.” The development team stated, “With the publisher’s support, we will further enhance the quality of the game and fully realize the potential of ‘Dragon Shelter.’”
Dragon Shelter is establishing its own unique identity in the highly competitive healing game genre by balancing elements of farm management, bonding with dragons, and village restoration. With expectations that the game’s quality will be further enhanced through the update demo on June 5th and additional information to be released in the future, attention is focused on how it will meet users upon its official launch in 2026.
