• A growth-oriented strategy game with a 1950s Cold War vibe played on a physical map.
  • A free demo is available on Steam and Itch.io, with the official release scheduled for August 6, 2026.

Indie studio A&I Software has released a demo of the growth-oriented espionage strategy game ‘The Syndicate: Classified Operations’ for free on Steam and Itch.io.

Set against the backdrop of the Cold War, this unique game involves expanding your power by carrying out secret operations on a command table in the form of a physical board featuring maps, documents, and equipment.

Players build an intelligence network based on city-based bases and grow into a global intelligence organization by gradually developing operations that initially involved direct intervention into automated systems. The game features a structure that combines various mini-games and strategic choices beyond simple repetitive clicking, and is characterized by the fun of a unique ‘gradual growth strategy’ along with immersive presentation.

A 1950s command center, a global intelligence empire expanding room by room

Set in a stylized 1950s Cold War era, The Syndicate is a growth-oriented strategy game where players take on the role of a commander in an intelligence organization to build a global operations network. The game progresses by expanding influence through the capture of cities one by one on a command table composed of maps, documents, and machinery.

Initially, missions are carried out through the player’s direct intervention, but they gradually evolve into an automated operating system through ‘Blacksite’ upgrades. As your power grows, new systems and opportunities open up, naturally combining active control with long-term growth strategies. The core of the game lies in the process of growing from a small organization into a global information powerhouse.

Differentiated immersion implemented with a physical board-based interface

The most significant feature of The Syndicate is that it minimizes traditional UI and structures interactions around actual physical objects. Instead of typical menus and digital interfaces, a physical command table consisting of map boards, files, and mechanical equipment serves as the sole point of contact between the player and the game.

This tactile presentation further enhances the unique atmosphere of the spy genre and provides a sense of immersion rarely seen in existing clicker or idle genres. In addition, various mini-game elements such as decoding information, intercepting couriers, viewing confidential documents, and real-time response are added to complete a gameplay experience that goes beyond simple repetition.

Itch.io users are showing positive reactions, saying, “The combination of the unique thrill of children’s games felt when resources accumulate rapidly and the mini-games that complement it is impressive.”

Rapid updates incorporating development feedback, and polish refined together with the community

ANI Software has continued to release rapid patches by actively incorporating player feedback even after the demo release. The March 24 patch introduced major changes, including a complete overhaul of core systems, a redesign of the Research Book, the rearrangement of talents, the introduction of a new Courier Mechanic, and improvements to the early game experience.

It is also impressive that the intro flow was adjusted multiple times based on detailed observation of how new players handle the first few minutes. The developer is also continuously improving accessibility by simplifying decryption and unlock mechanics and enhancing click prompts. This development approach is regarded as a typical indie development method that improves quality together with the community.

Supports 19 languages including Korean, targeting the global market

The official release version is expected to support 19 languages, including English, Korean, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, French, German, Italian, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Polish, Turkish, Thai, Vietnamese, Czech, Indonesian, and Catalan.

Such extensive language localization is exceptional for a small indie studio and is interpreted as a move directly targeting the global fanbase of children’s and strategy games.

An espionage empire created by a solo developer, ANI Software’s debut title

ANI Software is a small indie studio developing ‘The Syndicate’, starting from a love for the world of Cold War espionage. Its unique direction of combining a physical board-style UI with incremental strategy is a differentiating factor not easily found in existing idle and clicker genres, and it is expected to be an interesting choice for both genre fans and Cold War history enthusiasts.

The demo is currently available for free on Steam and Itch.io (including browser play), and community feedback will continue to serve as a key guiding force for development until the official launch.
