Italy-based one-person development studio Ta2 Games Studio has unveiled the top-down roguelike shooter ‘O3: Hollow Descent’ and started accepting Steam wishlist registrations and distributing a free demo.
Inspired by the surrealist aesthetics of HR Giger and Zdzisław Beksiński, this work is a biomechanical horror action game depicting the survival of an astronaut who crashes on a hostile alien planet.

O3: Hollow Descent is a top-down shooter where you control an astronaut who has crashed alone on a hostile alien planet, navigating through an ever-changing labyrinth. Each procedurally generated room is filled with biomechanical creatures, deadly traps, and a ceaseless barrage of enemy bullets, and the game features a permadeath system where a single mistake leads to death.
Combat is designed around rapid dashes and immediate shooting reactions, requiring skill-based gameplay that involves reading enemy patterns and moving precisely. The core gameplay involves constructing your own unique build by combining weapons and active/passive abilities that appear randomly each time, and it also includes exploration elements such as discovering hidden rooms and opening secret chests to obtain powerful rewards. Additionally, a narrative mystery involving tracking the whereabouts of missing crew members adds a sense of purpose to the gameplay.
A living, breathing biomechanical hell… completed with unique visuals
The most striking impression of O3: Hollow Descent is its unique visuals. Combining the biomechanical aesthetics of HR Giger, famous for the creature designs in the ‘Alien’ series, with the artistic style of Polish painter Beksiński, known for his desolate and apocalyptic landscapes, the visuals go beyond a simple sci-fi game to allow players to visually experience a bizarre and unsettling sense of horror.
As the developers handcrafted every environment, asset, and visual element, each space goes beyond a simple background, filled with intricate details reminiscent of the interior of a living creature. Corridors intertwined with organic structures and metallic textures, along with the silhouettes of creatures writhing in the darkness, maintain an unsettling tension from the moment the game begins until it ends.
Sound design is also a key element in completing this atmosphere. Produced in collaboration with professional composers, the soundtrack captures the alien planet’s sense of isolation and the desperation for survival through music, while the added lighting design provides an overwhelming sense of immersion that leaves the entire space breathless.
A Game Created Through an Artist’s Eyes… The Challenge of Solo Developer ‘Simmy’
The developer of O3: Hollow Descent is Simion Bogdan, nicknamed ‘Simy’, who is originally from Romania and currently resides in Italy. Having worked as a professional artist in the creative industry for several years, he combined his artistic sensibilities with his passion for games to establish Ta2 Games Studio and embark on the development of O3: Hollow Descent.
He single-handedly handles art direction, 3D modeling, game design, and implementation, while selectively collaborating with some composers and voice actors to enhance the game’s quality. He stated, “I approach every environment and element from an artist’s perspective,” and this development philosophy is cited as the background behind the creation of O3: Hollow Descent’s unique visual identity.
Community Reactions Confirmed via Steam Demo and Kickstarter
A demo version of O3: Hollow Descent is currently available on Steam, allowing players to experience the core combat systems and atmosphere firsthand before release. Since the demo’s release, interest in the game’s unique visuals and intense combat has been rapidly spreading across the Steam community and social media.
