Busan Metropolitan City and the Busan Information Industry Promotion Agency (President, hereinafter BIPA) have begun recruiting participating companies for the ‘2026 Bu:Star Game Content Production Support Project’ to strengthen the global competitiveness of game companies in the Busan region.
■ Composed of 3 divisions: All-in-One Package, Commercialization, and Prototype
This project is divided into a total of three divisions based on the development stage: all-in-one package, commercialization, and prototype.
The All-in-One Package category provides phased support for up to three years to projects aiming for global market entry. It consists of production support in the first year, enhancement in the second year, and marketing support in the third year; depending on the development status, the enhancement stage may be skipped, allowing direct access to marketing support.
The commercialization sector targets games capable of developing a service-ready build within the agreement period, while the prototype sector supports production costs necessary to materialize initial ideas. Support items consist of general service fees, commissions, and usage fees, including labor costs (up to 100% configuration), and cover expenses required for overall development, such as IP acquisition, outsourced production, story discovery, and concept design.
■ Up to 100 million KRW per project… Offshore companies can also apply
The program operates in three categories: All-in-One Package, Commercialization, and Prototype (General/Rookie), providing support ranging from 40 million won to a maximum of 100 million won per project. Eligible applicants are game companies with their headquarters or branches in Busan, and companies that have committed to relocating their headquarters are also eligible to apply.
This year, the scope of support has been expanded to reflect the opinions of game companies in Busan. A new Prototype (Rookie) category has been established for early-stage startups to lower business entry barriers, and funding for the All-in-One Package and Commercialization categories has also been increased by 20 million won compared to the previous year.
■ Busan’s leading game industry brand that started in 2015 and has continued for over 10 years
The Bu:Star game content production support project is Busan’s representative game incubation program that has been running since 2015.
We have previously discovered games of various genres and supported their entry into the global market, including Sunny Side Up’s PC game ‘Little Witch in the Woods’, which achieved the number one spot for worldwide sales in Early Access on Steam; Appnori’s VR game ‘All-in-One Sports VR’, which ranked number one in popular games on China’s Pico Store; and Mast Games’ mobile game ‘Warship Fleet Command’, which was popular on the domestic Play Store.
■ One-stop support system centered on the Busan Global Game Center
The Bu:Star project operates through the organic linkage of programs such as game content production support, commercialization support, and support for fostering the global indie game industry, centered around the Busan Global Game Center (BGC) operated by the Busan Information Industry Promotion Agency.
In addition to production funding, selected companies can also receive various non-monetary support, such as incubation support within BGC, game content analysis and launch support, marketing strategy support and global marketing, and game camps for intensive training for practitioners.
