- Million-Seller Milestone: Reached 1 million copies sold just three months after its October 2025 launch.
- Massive Free Update: New characters, 8 unique ball types, and the highly requested “Endless Mode” are live now.
- 2026 Roadmap: First of three planned free content drops for the year.
Global indie powerhouse Devolver Digital and developer Kenny Sun & Friends are celebrating a monumental achievement today. Their brick-breaking survival roguelite, BALL x PIT, has officially surpassed 1 million units sold across all platforms. To mark the occasion, the team has released the game’s first major free content update today, January 27, 2026.
A Modern Classic in the Making
Since its debut on October 16, 2025, BALL x PIT has been a juggernaut in the indie scene. It sold 100,000 copies in a single day and reached the 1-million mark by December. With a 94% “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam and a near-perfect 4.86/5 on the PlayStation Store, the game has struck a chord with its frantic 20-minute gameplay loops and deep synergy mechanics.
Meet the New Contenders
The January update introduces two new playable characters, each offering a radical shift in how players control the “pit”:
- The Falcon Hunter: Accompanied by two birds stationed on the sides of the screen, this character fires balls in wide, sweeping arcs. It excels at area control and hitting hard-to-reach clusters from the flanks.
- The Drunkard: Described as a “royal problem child,” this character generates a personal gravity field. Players can pull active balls toward the paddle or warp their trajectories mid-flight, allowing for unprecedented precision (or chaos).
8 New Ways to Break the World
The update adds eight new ball types to the roguelite pool, including:
- Fireworks: Bursts into unpredictable shrapnel upon impact, dealing scattered damage.
- Stone: Deals massive damage but physically degrades and breaks the more it bounces.
- Landslide: Triggers a wave of debris at the first point of impact, dealing sustained Area of Effect (AoE) damage to nearby enemies.
The Community’s Choice: Endless Mode
The centerpiece of this update is the brand-new Endless Mode. Previously, runs ended after the final boss, but players can now choose to descend further into the abyss. The difficulty scales infinitely, testing the limits of a player’s build and reflexes.
“The community made it clear that they wanted a way to keep their god-tier builds running,” said developer Kenny Sun. “Endless Mode was our top priority to give players a place to truly test their limits.”
Availability & 2026 Roadmap
The free update is available now on PC (Steam/Epic), PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and the recently launched Nintendo Switch 2.
This is only the beginning for 2026. Devolver Digital has confirmed two more major free updates scheduled for April and July, promising even more characters and “ball-fusion” mechanics throughout the year.
