Global game publisher CFK (CEO Koo Chang-sik) announced on the 15th that it signed an MOU for cooperation with Indie Drive (CEO Park Jong-hyuk) at G-Star 2024.

Indie Drive is a platform company that provides an easy start for Korean indie game developers and creates a stable development environment. In July 2024, the company opened the indie game team-building community ‘Mandre’ and began actively supporting indie game developers. Since then, it has carried out various activities through support projects from organizations such as the Korea Creative Content Agency and Gyeonggi Content Promotion Agency.

Through this MOU, the two organizations plan to cooperate in various areas, including ▲ cooperation in establishing a foundation for strengthening the competitiveness of indie games, ▲ support for the discovery and growth of promising indie game teams, and ▲ cooperation for the advancement of indie games and entry into the global multi-platform market, under the broad framework of ‘cooperation for creating a growth environment for indie games in Korea and for successful market expansion.’

CFK is the only global console publisher with the technology to develop transplants and remakes for platform conversion. Using this as an opportunity, in 2022, it attempted to expand its lineup to multiple platforms, including PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox, by launching five games on IPTV platforms, including ‘Wonder Boy Returns Remix’, ‘MazM: Jekyll and Hyde’, ‘Cube’, ‘A Street Cat’s Tale’, and ‘Hongmaseong Remilia: Symphony of the Scarlet’.

In addition, the company is aiming to play the role of a ‘content provider’. As the content download market in the game industry becomes active, the company has expanded its business to publish domestic and international games with capabilities on various platforms. As a publisher, it also has a unique development organization for porting development for platform conversion, IP remake, etc., helping game companies advance to more diverse platforms and succeed without additional burden.

Based on this, the company is also increasing collaboration with government agencies such as the Gyeonggi Content Promotion Agency, Daegu Digital Innovation Promotion Agency, and Seoul Business Agency, as well as educational institutions such as Gyeonggi Game Meister High School and Cheonggang Cultural Industry College.

CFK CEO Koo Chang-sik said, “We are delighted to collaborate with Indie Drive, which is working hard for the domestic indie game industry. We will work with Indie Drive, which is active in various fields, to develop domestic indie games, to create an environment for the growth of indie games, and to successfully develop the market.”

Indie Drive CEO Jong-hyeok Park said, “It is tough to make a game you made because you wanted to make it fun and have many users play it. Through this collaboration with CFK, we will take advantage of each other’s strengths and promote the development of the domestic indie game environment.”

Meanwhile, the company plans to participate in G-Star 2024 as a B2B booth and conduct cooperative consultations and business matching with indie game companies. Jang Won-seon, CEO of Asteroid J, who developed ‘Ninja Island’, which is collaborating with the company in publishing, gave a lecture on console game development as a speaker on the first day of the G-Star 2024 international game conference ‘G-CON’. CEO Jang is currently revealing a demonstration version of the new rogue-lite ‘Shadow Zero’ through the Chungnam Global Game Center booth participating in the B2C hall.
