Epic Games Korea (CEO Park Sung-chul), the Korean subsidiary of Epic Games, announced on the 12th that it will participate in the ‘Busan Indie Connect Festival 2024 (from now on referred to as BIC Festival 2024)’ to be held from the 16th to the 18th.
The BIC Festival, now in its 10th year, is Korea’s most prominent indie game event. This year, celebrating its 10th anniversary, the festival planned to provide more than just indie games through various stage programs and special events. Epic Games, which has been a part of the BIC Festival since its inception in 2015, is expected to become the only company to have participated for ten consecutive years through this event.
Epic Games has been emphasizing accessibility for indie game developers through various methods, such as licensing policies such as free use of Unreal Engine and royalty exemption for projects with total revenue of less than $1 million, the 88:12 developer-friendly commission policy provided on the Unreal Engine Marketplace, Epic Games Store, etc., and the developer support program Epic MegaGrants.
Thanks to these efforts by Epic Games, the number of Unreal Engine-based games in the indie game market is continuously increasing. Looking at the BIC Festival data from the past ten years, the number of indie games developed with Unreal Engine and submitted has increased yearly, with the number of submitted games rising by 825% and the number of selected games increasing by 233%.
Meanwhile, Epic Games will operate a booth where visitors to the BIC Festival can experience Epic products. At the Epic booth, visitors can experience animation in various situations with game animation sample projects, play Cropout, a family farm management style game, and directly examine the RTS genre game project.
In addition, you can play games on Rocket Racing Island and Fall Guys Island created with Fortnite Unreal Editor (UEFN), as well as experience Rocket Racing and Fall Guys templates that allow you to generate racing courses and racing games or create your games using Fall Guys assets. Epic Games will provide goods to visitors who enjoy Epic products at the booth.
In addition, there will be business meetings on-site, and Epic Games Evangelist Ohchan Kwon will appear on the BIC livestream to introduce Epic’s ecosystem for indie developers.
