On the afternoon of May 30, First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (from now on referred to as the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) Jeon Byeong-geuk met with officials from indie game producers and distributors at the Global Game Hub Center (Pangyo, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province) to listen to the difficulties faced in the indie game field and discuss indie game issues. We discussed development plans.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism operates the Global Game Hub Center with the Korea Creative Content Agency to foster game developers with world-class capabilities by providing comprehensive support to potential small and medium-sized game companies and prospective entrepreneurs. Currently, 40 companies are located in the center.

On May 1, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced the ‘Comprehensive Plan for Game Industry Promotion’ for the second leap forward of the game industry. In particular, it supported indie games to increase K-games’ competitiveness and enable the experimentation and production of games in various fields and types. Announced that it would strengthen. We plan to intensively foster indie games through detailed measures such as ‘win-win cooperative start-up support in connection with leading companies’, ‘education of start-up talent’, and ‘planning/production and overseas sales channel development’.

Vice Minister Jeon Byeong-geuk said, “Our indie games have played a big role in the development of our game industry through creative and experimental attempts.” He added, “We will strengthen support for start-ups and early growth of indie games and participate in overseas game shows. “We will expand overseas expansion opportunities and increase support at each stage of growth so that potential indie game companies can grow into mid-sized companies,” he said.
