• An open-world crime management simulation by Turkish indie developer BEF Games
  • Drug cultivation system, real estate expansion, new black market… Key Early Access updates

The dream of a crime empire that starts with a single nightclub and takes control of the entire city. The free major update “High Society” for “The Boss Gangster: Criminal Empire,” an open-world action simulation management game co-developed by Turkish indie developer BEF Games and publisher Tripwire Presents, has been released via Steam Early Access.

This update includes a host of key elements for building a criminal empire, such as the introduction of a drug cultivation system, expanded real estate features, the addition of a black market, and enhanced nightclub automation, and also features discounts from the Steam Spring Sale.

A crime city unfolding beneath neon lights, a living world from a top-down perspective

The Boss Gangster is set in the fictional city of ‘Night City’ in the early 2000s. The neon-lit streets and decadent atmosphere are It brings to mind GTA Vice City and Scarface, and the entire city from a top-down perspective The element of looking down and watching one’s influence spread is also It is considered a modern reinterpretation of the sensibilities of classic crime management games.

The city within the game is more than just a backdrop. NPCs, traffic, police, and rival organizations react organically to the player’s actions, creating a living, breathing world. Adding to this is a custom soundtrack consisting of 16 tracks that naturally supports the unique atmosphere of nightlife.

The core of the High Society update is “the start of production and expansion”

The core of this update is the full implementation of a drug cultivation system. Players explore the open world to collect seeds and begin small-scale cultivation in rented spaces, gradually expanding into secret greenhouses. This allows them to establish a stable revenue structure and lay the foundation for advancing toward a larger criminal empire.

The real estate system has also been significantly strengthened. The range of strategic choices has been expanded, as various buildings such as hotels and apartments can be utilized as production bases or hideouts. In addition, automation features have been added to nightclub operations, and the in-game economy and criminal ecosystem have become more multi-dimensional with the addition of a new black market and expanded street crime content.

A dual structure where nightclub management and criminal organization building are intertwined

The most distinctive feature of this game is its dual structure of operating both ‘legal’ and ‘illegal’ activities simultaneously. Players must grow from being mere street criminals into businessmen running nightclubs and managing VIPs, as well as the ringleader of a criminal organization.

Based on a growth structure where players start as taxi drivers, street vendors, or bouncers and gradually expand their organizations, the game offers a sandbox environment where various elements such as production and distribution management, vehicle customization, street racing, a police wanted system, and revenge between factions are organically interconnected.

The development team announced that, reflecting community feedback, they have expanded the game’s direction from a nightclub-centric model to a full open-world sandbox, and plan to introduce a usage-based skill progression system in the future, including pickpocketing, lockpicking, trading, charisma, and crafting.

“The depth of management that GTA overlooked”… The challenge of a Turkish indie studio

BEF Games is an independent developer from Turkey, and this game is a title that originally started under the name ‘The Boss Gangsters: Nightlife’ and shifted its direction to its current open-world crime sandbox form by incorporating community feedback.

Overseas media outlets and communities are giving positive reviews regarding the release of this update. Some reviews praised the game for possessing solid fundamentals despite being in the Early Access stage, noting that it “complemented the depth of management and RPG systems that existing crime games have overlooked.”

The developer expressed their ambition, stating, “Our goal is to create a game that can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with open-world titles like GTA by expanding the city, adding new mafia families, and including boats and maritime activities.”
