Unity, a real-time 3D content creation and growth platform, announced that it has released ‘Unity 2022 LTS (Long Term Support)’, the latest stable version of the Unity engine.
‘Unity 2022 LTS’ has been improved through more than two years of development, testing, and user feedback and provides a more stable and efficient development experience on all platforms. With this release, the full version of the Data-Oriented Technology Stack (DOTS) is supported for all experienced creators in the Unity Editor.
Through this, the control and determinism of in-memory data and runtime process scheduling have been strengthened, greatly expanding the engine’s capabilities to create massively large-scale games in a dynamic environment.
In addition, the main feature of ‘Unity 2022 LTS’ is that it is possible to implement a high-quality multiplayer game through the close integration of the Unity game engine and the Unity Gaming Service (UGS). Furthermore, the new Megacity multiplayer sample provides real-world examples of implementing multiplayer features.
This release also features a state-of-the-art physics engine that reduces manual work while creating more natural and beautiful environments. Feature upgrades such as High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP), Volumetrics Material, Shader Graph, new water system, Cloud Layer, and more to create spooky, atmospheric forests, desolate landscapes, and more. By implementing a variety of environments that fit the game atmosphere, such as landscapes and misty valleys, it is possible to provide players with a highly immersive experience.
In addition, ‘Unity 2022 LTS’ can be used to optimize games for various modern platforms such as mobile, console, desktop, and XR. New processes, especially for Xbox®, PlayStation®5, Nintendo Switch
‘Unity 2022 LTS’ is an upgrade of the Universal Render Pipeline (URP), enabling high-quality graphics to be implemented on all platforms. Forward+ rendering removes the limit on the number of light sources, enabling realistic real-time lighting, Level Of Detail (LOD) CrossFade for smoother distance transitions, and temporal anti- Edge pixelation and flicker can be reduced with Temporal Anti-Aliasing (TAA). Shader Variants pre-filtering optimizes memory to save time and improve overall game performance.
