The final winners of the ‘LOGIN TO BE WINNER’ , sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, hosted by the Korea Creative Content Agency and organized by the Korea Game Developers Association have been announced.
The Global Indie Game Production Contest (GIGDC2022), which started as the first global indie game contest in 2003, has been reorganized into its current name in 2016 and is a representative indie developer recruitment gate that celebrates its 20th year this year. The competition is focused on originality and creativity rather than the completeness of the work, and has recorded a fierce competition rate of 11:1 by category, with an average of 310 or more submissions every year.
At GIGDC 2022, which was held for the purpose of revitalizing the indie game production culture and expanding the domestic game industry base, ‘Code Life’, which received the grand prize in the general division production division, produced A total of 20 teams including 4 teams (Grand Prize, Gold Award, Silver Award, Bronze Award) each enjoyed the glory of the final award.
What is particularly noteworthy about this GIGDC 2022 is that there were many works armed with a pure indie spirit, such as novel workmanship and original planning, unlike the large number of entries that were focused on a specific popular genre.
It is also worth noting that, unlike in previous years, the level of high school and college students’ entries has risen to the point that they overwhelm the general department. Unlike most general departments, which develop teams by dividing each role, most of them developed their entries from planning to development, art, and music by one person, foretelling a bright blueprint for the future of the domestic game market.
Meanwhile, the winners of this GIGDC2022 will be provided with the opportunity to participate in technical lectures through the domestic support program that has been held since 2019 to strengthen their development capabilities.
In addition, various benefits such as training completion certificates issued by the organizer, introduction of an incubating center where they can continue their game production activities, and interview opportunities with indie developers will be provided to winners of Winners Camp’s customized lectures and mentoring for each producer level.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic last year, the ‘Global Translation Program for Overseas Advancement’, a domestic support program that replaced the operation of overseas support programs, will also be provided. Benefits are given to all winners, and support is provided to help lay the foundation for a stable global launch service by localizing the language of the recipient’s work in the country where the service is to be provided.
Last year, benefits were provided to In Stone (English, Japanese) and Lapin (Spanish), the award-winning works.
More details about the winners can be found in the [Hall of Fame] section of the GIGDC2022 official website .
