‘Feline Forensics and the Meowseum Mystery’, the debut work of Brazilian one-person developer Nobody Crown and the first publishing title of cat game studio Devcats, was officially released on Steam on May 13.

Feline Forensics is a mystery adventure that combines black-and-white hand-drawn noir visuals, a smooth jazz soundtrack, and the unique premise of a cat detective. Players investigate a jewelry theft and murder case that occurred at an art museum, uncovering the truth of the incident through on-site investigation, clue gathering, suspect interrogation, and evidence comparison.

The game features a world blended with the charming wit of animals, unique characters, and a classic point-and-click style puzzle structure, and is garnering attention as a work that simultaneously captures the tension characteristic of noir and a cozy, healing atmosphere.

The launch price is $9.99, and the free Steam demo recorded over 7,000 downloads prior to release. A portion of the game’s sales revenue will be donated to cat shelters and charities.

The aesthetics of hand-drawn art adding jazz music to black-and-white noir

Feline Forensics is a soft-boiled noir mystery game that offers a modern reinterpretation of the sensibilities of Golden Age detective novels. The overall visuals consist of hand-drawn black-and-white graphics, with intense color flash effects added to each scene to complete a unique atmosphere.

The museum exhibits in the game have established a unique worldview by adapting classical and modern art with animal humor and parody. Each exhibit and background is hand-drawn, creating an atmosphere that feels like exploring a living, breathing noir city.

The soundtrack features sweet jazz music composed of saxophone, plunger trumpet, and speakeasy piano, completing the overall atmosphere. The combination of rain sounds, shadows, and jazz playing during tense interrogation scenes creates a balanced noir atmosphere that is both sweet and suspenseful.

From crime scene investigation to interrogation… The standard of classic point-and-click

The player takes on the role of a cat detective investigating an art museum case involving the jewel theft of the century and a murder. You must examine the scene, collect clues, and interrogate suspicious suspects to uncover the truth of the case.

Based on a traditional point-and-click adventure structure, the game stores collected items in the inventory, while a notebook records information about encountered characters and events. Players can continue their deductions by pointing out suspicious details in conversations or connecting them to evidence.

Animal puns and cultural parodies are actively utilized throughout the game, maintaining a cheerful rhythm even amidst the heavy noir atmosphere. Controls support keyboard and mouse, and the design also takes gamepad play into account.

An aging Schnauzer, a suspicious pig, a cat detective… unique animal characters

The game features numerous animal characters with distinct personalities. Various suspects and accomplices, such as a suspicious pig from the outskirts of the city and an arrogant, elderly Schnauzer always sniffing out scents, are concealing the truth behind the case.

The protagonist cat detective is also a character possessing typical characteristics of the hardboiled genre. He is portrayed as a detective who is excessively fond of milk and obsessed with details, yet ultimately never misses the core of the case. The development team explained that they focused on creating a living world beyond simple puzzle-solving by giving each character distinct traits and personalities.

A Brazilian Indie Studio’s First Challenge with 6 Rescued Cats

Nobody Crown is a one-person development studio based in Caxias do Sul, Brazil. The developer stated that they began creating a prototype of the game about three years ago while attending graduate school and have continuously developed the game from an initial idea.

Publisher Devcats is also a Brazil-based indie studio well known for the ‘Full of Cats’ series, which has sold over 1.5 million copies. In 2026, they launched a new publishing business and selected ‘Felline Forensics’ as their first title.

In particular, Devcats is famous for its unique studio concept, run by a development team and six rescued cats, and is actively involved in activities to improve awareness regarding pet adoption.

“Jazz completes the mood”… Amidst favorable media reviews, some difficulty issues pointed out

Initial reactions from overseas media are positive. LadiesGamers described it as a “work that stands out for its style and humor,” noting that “the gentle jazz soundtrack perfectly completes the game’s atmosphere.”

Phenixx Gaming introduced it as “a title worth noting for fans of noir mysteries and puzzle games,” while MonsterVine gave it a positive review, noting that “the relaxed and cozy atmosphere enhances the game’s appeal.” However, some media outlets pointed out that the mystery structure was somewhat simplistic as a drawback.

Devcats described it as a “unique detective game that blends jazz noir style with humor and puzzle elements,” and announced plans to actively support indie projects with a cozy vibe in the future.
