Las Vegas-based indie studio Night Street Games has officially announced that its debut title, Last Flag, will hit PC shelves on April 14. This isn’t just another shooter; it’s a passion project from brothers Dan and Mac Reynolds, who are trading the concert stage for the digital battlefield.

A Childhood Game Reimagined

The concept for Last Flag didn’t come from a boardroom—it came from the woods. The Reynolds brothers grew up playing Capture the Flag at Boy Scout camps, and they felt that existing video game versions never captured the true tension of hiding and seeking a physical object in the dark.

To bring this vision to life, they recruited Matthew Berger, a 10-year Blizzard veteran known for his work on Diablo III, to serve as Game Director. The result is a 5v5 shooter that blends the chaotic fun of Team Fortress 2 with the high-stakes strategy of a real-world scout game.

Gameplay: Hide, Search, and Defend

Set against the backdrop of a vibrant, 1970s-style TV game show, Last Flag introduces several unique mechanics that set it apart from standard shooters:

  • The 60-Second Hide: At the start of a match, the “Flag Bearer” has one minute to hide the flag anywhere in their territory.
  • Information Warfare: Teams must capture Radio Towers to receive “pings” on the map, narrowing down the enemy flag’s location every 30 seconds.
  • Economy & Upgrades: Players can hunt “Cashbots” (neutral NPCs) to earn team currency, which is spent on individual stat upgrades during the match.
  • Diverse Roles: Choose from 9 distinct roles, including Tanks, Rogues, Healers, and Mechanics, each with specialized abilities.

The “Helldivers 2” Strategy: Master One Mode

In an industry where games often suffer from “feature creep,” Night Street Games is taking a page from the Helldivers 2 playbook. CEO Mac Reynolds emphasized that they are focusing entirely on one game mode to ensure maximum polish and balance.

“We want to do one thing and do it better than anyone else,” said Mac Reynolds.

The studio has committed to a Buy-to-Play model, promising that all future maps and characters will be provided as free updates to the community.

Reception and Global Hype

The buzz is real: Last Flag has already surpassed 100,000 wishlists on Steam. Early hands-on previews from outlets like Vice and CGMagazine have praised its “low barrier to entry” and “intense 1970s vibe.” While some early players have noted that character movement feels a bit stiff compared to modern titles like Deadlock, the developers are actively using the current open demo to gather feedback for the final launch.
