Global indie game publisher Devolver Digital and developer Massive Monster Massive Monster officially released the large-scale expansion pack ‘Unholy Alliance’ for the multi-million-seller title ‘Cult of the Lamb’ on January 23rd (Korean time).
The game is a representative indie game success, selling 1 million copies within 10 days of its release in September 2022 and 4.5 million copies as of October 2024. It is recorded as Devolver Digital’s highest-selling IP of all time and is known to have generated over $90 million (approximately 124 billion won) in revenue.
The Epic of the New God and the Forgotten Sheep
“Ulhaven” is the next major expansion, taking place after the main story. It follows the call of a forgotten god heard from a mysterious snowy mountain. Players will rebuild a collapsed village, uncover ancient truths surrounding the sheep race, and confront past sins by reviving the power of winter.
The core setting of this expansion is the snowy mountain region known as “Ulhaven.” Here, gamers guide scattered souls to a sacred sanctuary and restore a fallen village. Through this process, they can regain the fading power of Inyah, the forgotten god of sheep, but the price is by no means light.
Each soul saved has ramifications for the entire world, and the act of salvation simultaneously defiles the land. This threatens the entire “Land of the Old Faith,” and players are faced with the choice of whether to right past sins or usher in yet another destruction.
Harsh climate systems that threaten survival
“Ulhaven” introduces a new environmental element to the existing gameplay. Blizzards and bitter cold threaten the survival of the followers, and players must construct new structures to protect them from the cold and prevent frostbite and famine. The strategic element of “climate” has been fully added to the existing religious order management system, requiring a more multi-faceted approach to management.
In terms of base operations, a new livestock system is introduced. Raising rare animals at your cult base provides resources needed for wool and body temperature maintenance, and, depending on the situation, can even serve as a valuable food source. These animals can be tamed, ridden, or entrusted to followers, significantly expanding the range of operational strategies.
Expanded exploration and combat content
Exploration content has also been significantly enhanced. A new realm, teeming with creatures consumed by “corruption” beneath the snow, has appeared, and players must navigate two large new dungeons. Traces of the past still remain in these dungeons, offering even more intense combat and exploration than before.
