Global game company Gravity officially released its new 3D platformer title, “Little Gods of the Abyss,” on January 22nd. Developed by independent game studio PLAY Mephistowaltz, the game has been in development for approximately four years since its initial release on Steam Early Access in November 2020.
Fairytale-like visuals and emotional narrative
“Little Beings of the Abyss” combines fairytale-like visuals, original artwork, and an emotional narrative. Players assume the role of Nia, the protagonist, on a journey to purify a world distorted by the corruption of the Gate of Origin. The game’s most unique aspect is its deep immersion, conveying a sense of calm and unease through background changes, music, and character movements, without dialogue or text.
In terms of gameplay, each stage features puzzle elements utilizing varying terrain and various devices. Solving challenging paths, tangled mazes, and complex puzzles, the game combines precise controls and timing-based gimmicks like jumping, dodging, and gliding, creating a tense and engaging experience. One gamer even described it as “Dark Souls Mario.”
The official version has been released amidst positive reviews and proven gameplay on the global stage.
Gravity has showcased this game at various global gaming events, including G-STAR and PlayX4 in Korea, the Tokyo Game Show in Japan, PAX EAST in North America, the Taipei Game Show in Taiwan, and Gamescom in Germany. The game’s high level of completion has been recognized, winning awards at the Tokyo Game Show, Indie Craft, and the G-Star Indie Showcase.
Park Jin-on, head of Gravity’s business team, said, “The Little Beings of the Abyss has received good responses at various gaming events for its unique lyrical sensibility combined with colorful puzzle elements,” and “In the official version, we added even more detailed graphics and various stages to make it even more fun.”
The game is available for purchase on the Steam Store for 15,500 won. It supports multiple languages, including Korean, English, Japanese, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, French, German, and Spanish. To celebrate its official launch, a 30% discount event is being held until January 29th.
