Ranked first among groups in regional gaming industry development evaluations…Received 100 million won in national funding
Gwangju City has secured an additional 850 million won in national incentives in recognition of its leadership in commercializing local content and fostering the gaming industry.
Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kang Ki-jung) recently received an ‘Excellent’ rating for the second consecutive year in the ‘Regional Specialized Content Development Support Project Performance Evaluation’ hosted by the Korea Creative Content Agency, securing KRW 750 million in national budget performance bonuses for 2026.
Gwangju City, in collaboration with the Gwangju Information and Culture Industry Promotion Agency, is promoting a regional specialized content development support project and striving to generate revenue by utilizing regional content.
Through this, Gwangju City achieved results such as ▲development of tourism convergence products based on local content intellectual property (IP) ▲establishment of a cooperative system for large corporations, small and medium-sized enterprises, and small business franchises ▲organization of regional content distribution collaboration partners ▲production of fan products (goods) utilizing local content intellectual property (IP) ▲support for distribution linked to bases.
With this performance-based bonus, Gwangju City has secured a budget of 3.15 billion won (existing 1.2 billion won from the national budget, 1.2 billion won from the city budget, and 750 million won from the performance-based bonus) for next year’s regional specialized content development support project. The project will support ▲AI convergence content production ▲tourism convergence product operation ▲popular content collaboration product development, etc.
In addition, Gwangju City secured 100 million won in national performance bonus by taking first place in the group evaluation of the Korea Creative Content Agency’s ‘Regional Game Industry Promotion Project Performance Evaluation’.
This is the result of the Gwangju Global Game Center’s systematic support program, encompassing the entire game development and release process. Since its opening in 2016, the GGC has established a “Gwangju-style game ecosystem completion model” through initiatives such as ▲indie game discovery ▲game production support ▲indie game consulting (mentoring) ▲support for participation in global game exhibitions ▲and game commercialization support.
Gwangju City will continue to foster the Gwangju game industry by actively supporting the operation of game industry hubs and supporting game sound creators with a total budget of 2.05 billion won (1.05 billion won from the existing national budget, 900 million won from the city budget, and 100 million won from performance-based bonuses) for next year.
Lee Shin-hwa, head of the Content Industry Division, said, “We will work to ensure that the additionally secured budget leads to actual sales expansion, market entry, and new job creation for local content companies,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to ensure that Gwangju establishes itself as a true hub for the content industry in Korea.”
