The Chungbuk Global Game Center achieved its best performance ever in eight years since its opening in 2018.
The Chungbuk Global Game Center, supported by the Cheongju City Government and operated by the Cheongju City Cultural Industry Promotion Foundation, announced on the 27th that the combined sales of the 32 gaming companies supported by the center this year reached 10.01 billion won, surpassing the 10 billion won mark for the first time. This represents approximately 36% growth from last year and significantly exceeds the annual target of 7.75 billion won.
This has also led to record-breaking hiring performance. This year, companies applying for the program hired a total of 100 new employees, a more than 15% increase over last year’s annual hiring figures. This represents simultaneous expansion of the Chungbuk region’s gaming industry and corporate growth.
These achievements were built on the foundation of the Game Center’s strategic support programs. These initiatives, including the “Chungbuk Game Academy,” which cultivates gaming talent, the “Game Content Production Support” and “Indie Startup Production Support” initiatives, which foster the capabilities of local developers, and the “Game Content Enhancement and Commercialization Support Project,” which targets global markets, have emerged as core support measures for the growth of local small and medium-sized game companies.
In addition, securing operating funds for the company was facilitated through cooperation with the Chungcheong Regional Headquarters of the Technology Guarantee Fund, and it is noteworthy that a system for training and recruiting specialized personnel was established through collaboration with institutions such as the Gyeonggi Game Meister High School.
Byun Gwang-seop, CEO of the Cheongju Cultural Foundation, said, “Chungcheongbuk-do, which was a gaming wasteland just eight years ago, was able to achieve today’s best performance thanks to cooperation with local companies and continuous support.” He also expressed his ambition, saying, “The challenge of Chungcheongbuk-do game companies toward the global market is the real game from now on, and in 2026, we will continue to make all-out efforts to expand the game industry ecosystem and secure future talent.”
Based on this achievement, the Chungbuk Global Game Center plans to continue to promote the advancement of local game companies and establish a stable development environment with the goal of making Chungbuk a hub city for young indie game developers.
