Gyeonggi Content Agency (Director Tak Yong-Seok, from now on referred to as Gyeongkonjin) announced that it had completed the ‘Beaver Jam 2023 (from now on referred to as Game Jam) with Gyeonggi Game Jam’ co-hosted with Smilegate Future Lab on the 20th.

The game jam, which will be held for the first time this year, is part of the Gyeonggi Creative Content Agency’s large, medium, and small cooperation project and is designed to provide creative experiences and expand the indie game ecosystem in the province. In particular, in sympathy with the purpose of Smilegate Future Lab’s creator support project, the scale of the event increased while proceeding with Beaver Jam.

In this event, 100 people, including incumbent developers in the planning, development, and design occupations and high school students in the province, participated and completed 16 projects under the theme of ‘environment’.

Seongil Information High School student Jang Sang-hee, who is participating in the game jam for the first time, said, “We developed a project called ‘Creating My Own Country’ as a team of 7 people sleeping for 2 hours for two days. I hadn’t had a chance to plan a team project like this because I had only been learning game development for six months, but I think it was a good experience,” he said. “Thanks to that, I enjoyed coding. I want to participate again next year.”

In the mini-demonstration held after the completion of the project, the ‘Frocleaner’ project developed by a team at a large company and the ‘Terraforming’ project developed by a terraforming team was well received by many participants as they played with original ideas and complete graphics. In addition, experts from the game industry, such as AWS and Neowiz, attended and gave realistic advice to develop the project.

“We are strengthening the foundation of the indie game ecosystem in Gyeonggi-do through close collaboration with game companies in the province. This game jam was able to provide more citizens with opportunities to participate in collaboration with Smilegate.” I will try my best to become a Gemgi-do.”
