The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Park Bo-gyun) and the Korea Creative Content Agency (Director Cho Hyun-rae, hereinafter referred to as KOCCA) are recruiting games to support the ‘2023 Game Plus project until March 20th for the smooth entry of domestic games into overseas markets.
‘Game Plus’ is a business that allows domestic game developers who wish to enter the overseas market to select and use the professional services they need freely. In particular, this year, in order to strengthen the overseas expansion capabilities of small and medium-sized game companies, a game PM will be assigned, and basic strategy consulting will be provided so that games can be released overseas.
◆ A total of 5.9 billion were supported for 36 games this year. Increase the effectiveness of support by directly selecting the necessary services
KOCCA selects 30 games in the first half of the year and 6 games in the second half for this year’s ‘Add Games’ project and provides a total of 5.9 billion won worth of services. In the first half of this year, domestically developed games based on mobile and online (PC) platforms are targeted without genre restrictions, and a new start-up field is established to promote youth entrepreneurship and expand the base of the game industry other than the existing mainstream games, providing various ideas and excellent games. We support startups with production technology that are less than 3 years old.
Up to 160 million won for selected game companies and up to 200 million won for startups will be supported in points. Game companies receive points through the ‘Game Plus Platform (gsp.kocca.kr)’ in the form of an open market. You can directly select and receive support for overseas expansion from among the necessary services. Supported games must be able to be released directly in one or more target countries by August 31st.
◆ On February 27th (Mon), an offline business briefing session was held at the LH Corporate Growth Center in Pangyo.
In relation to this game plus business, the ‘offline business briefing’ will be held on the 27th (Mon) at 2:00 pm at the LH Corporate Growth Center in Pangyo. At the project briefing session, detailed explanations of the contents of support and how to apply for the project will be held, as well as a Q&A.
Companies wishing to participate in the project can apply through an online application on the KOCCA website (www.kocca.kr) by 5:00 pm on March 20 (Mon) after preparing the required documents. The announcement for the second half of the year will be announced separately on the website of Conjinwon in June.
Meanwhile, KOCCA has promoted the game plus business since 2020 and has created excellent success stories such as In particular, last year, it supported the direct overseas expansion of a total of 37 games, achieving meaningful results of KRW 49.8 billion in global sales and 13.9 million global downloads.
As a representative example, RoadComplete was soft-launched globally in June 2022, followed by monitoring responses by country, selecting major target countries with data obtained, and carrying out intensive marketing, translation, and CS. As a result, from May to December last year, about 5.73 million downloads and overseas sales of 29.7 billion won were achieved.
