Domestic indie game developers, ‘drought rain’ to developers who are in a financially difficult development environment

The Korea Creative Content Agency and the Korea Game Developers Association announced that they would open the official service of ‘Game Madang’, a free sharing platform for game development resources, on November 29th at 3 PM.

‘Game Madang’, a 2021 game data sharing platform operation business, collects and manages idle game development resources (including various graphic resources) developed in Korea through a transfer contract, and provides free of charge to domestic single developers, game-related public educational institutions, and students. This is a project carried out to improve game development efficiency and to establish a win-win system for a sound game ecosystem.

The main goal of Game Madang is to preserve development costs and establish a virtuous cycle by sharing free game development resources that are outsourced due to a large number of in-house development personnel and high purchase costs or a lack of in-house development manpower. It is to promote coexistence.

The transfer of author’s property, which is the basis and core of the game data sharing platform operation business, is a package based on the transfer unit price established in advance according to the copyright transfer contract after receiving the transfer application and selecting and evaluating the graphic resources buried in the project suspension and termination. Follow the procedure for receiving paid transfers in units. In this regard, the Copyright/Resources/Platform subcommittee, composed of experts in various fields such as resources, platforms, and copyrights, gathers for discussion, establishes standards, and proceeds with necessary procedures at each stage.

Game Madang, where the platform construction and operation plan was established from 2020, has been operating a pilot service for game-related departments and public educational institutions since February 2021. It will serve as a ‘drought rain’ for students and developers who are in a financially difficult development environment.
