Expanding the 11 Million Astroneer Universe… A New Standalone Title Focused on Co-op Expeditions

Starseeker is a new standalone title based on the ‘Astroneer’ universe, which has over 11 million players worldwide. While the previous title focused on sandbox survival and base building, this title focuses on cooperative multiplayer expeditions.

Players become crew members of the space station ‘ESS Starseeker,’ teaming up with other explorers to carry out planet-scale missions and explore deep space. In the process, they must collect advanced equipment and confront various threats, including alien life forms.

The ESS Starseeker, the core base of the game, is a space that continuously expands and evolves. Here, players upgrade their equipment and prepare for new expeditions. While cooperative play is central, solo play is also possible, and players can meet new companions at the station to form a team.

Astroneer’s bright and cheerful future, expanded exploration in third-person perspective

Starseeker inherits the trademark soft pastel colors and rounded sci-fi aesthetic of its predecessor, while introducing a third-person perspective to further expand the scale of exploration.

Exploration across the vast planetary surface, encounters with alien life, and various environmental threats combine to provide a more dynamic experience. Added to this is sound design by developers from major studios such as 343 Industries, Disney, EA, Valve, and Ubisoft, which simultaneously conveys the vibrancy of the space station and the tension of planetary exploration.

Major media outlets take notice… Attention focused on Nintendo Direct reveal

Major international media outlets are also paying attention to ‘Starseeker’. Noisy Pixel emphasized the shift in direction toward cooperative expeditions, while Gematsu highlighted the simultaneous launch across all platforms and the beta data transfer structure as key points. Nintendo Everything heightened expectations by selecting it as a standout title among those revealed via Nintendo Direct.

$87 million in revenue from Astroneer, a veteran studio under Devolver Digital

System Era Softworks is a development company founded in Seattle in 2014, comprised of developers from 343 Industries, Disney, EA, Valve, and Ubisoft. Their flagship title, ‘Astroneer,’ has established itself as a global hit, recording over $87 million in revenue and more than 13 million players since its Early Access release.

Based on these achievements, publisher Devolver Digital acquired the studio in 2023 for up to $40 million, and it is currently operating as a first-party studio. System Era’s core philosophy is a gameplay experience centered on exploration, creation, and community.

Starseeker is a title that boldly shifts its direction toward a cooperative expedition structure while maintaining the sensibilities of the original ‘Astroneer’. It is also noteworthy that it naturally accumulates user experience through a structure where play data carries over from the open beta phase.

Attention is focused on whether System Era Softworks can create another long-running hit title following ‘Astroneer’ with this new game.
