• Revealed at PC Gamer Showcase 2024… Polish Indie Studio CanCanCanAMan’s Debut Title
  • Unique 2.5D art and reverse RPG city management… A new indie title born from ‘Black & White 2’ nostalgia
  • Amidst positive initial reviews praising the “art and hero system,” active community feedback regarding balance and bugs is underway.

You are not a hero saving the world. Instead, you are a patron providing the heroes with equipment and living expenses. ‘Gold Gold Adventure Gold,’ a fantasy city management role-playing RPG developed by the indie studio CanCanCanAMan based in Warsaw, Poland, was officially released on Steam on May 16 after nine months of early access.

First unveiled at the 2024 PC Gamer Showcase, this title originated from the dream of a Polish developer who loved Black & White 2 in his childhood to “create a spiritual successor.” Since then, an international indie development team has joined, evolving it into a unique city management and RTS-style game.

Unique 2.5D visuals where 2D meets 3D… Winner of Best Art at SuperMagFest

Winner of the Best Art Award at the North American gaming and subculture event SuperMagFest in January 2026 The core visual of Gold Adventure Gold is a unique 2.5D art style that combines 2D sprites and 3D map design. Around dungeons swarming with monsters A growing fantasy city has been realized with vibrant colors and unique character designs.

Visual evaluations are also generally positive in community reactions. Regardless of whether the reviews are positive or negative, there is an assessment that “the art direction and hero character design are outstanding.” The game’s visual identity has established itself as its most prominent strength, to the extent that it is consistently repeated.

The catchy theme music is also one of the key elements that enhances the unique character of the work. The daily life of the city, where adventurers set off for dungeons and return with loot, blends with the cheerful music to complete the distinctive, humorous fantasy sensibility.

Hire heroes instead of controlling them… A unique perspective on city management in a ‘Reverse RPG’

The key feature of Gold Adventure Gold is that the player does not directly control a hero. The player takes on the role of a manager, building a city on land surrounded by monsters and issuing quests to adventurers flocking in search of fame and treasure.

It is structured so that you build a fantasy village, recruit heroes, assign quests, raise Godbeasts, cast powerful magic, and expand your influence one by one.

In addition to city building, the game features elements such as recruiting heroes, using powerful magic, and raising Godbeasts. In particular, the autonomous behavior system, where NPCs form parties, invest in buildings, and exchange quests, breathes life into the world. The育成 system, where a Godbeast raised by the player grows into a powerful warrior, is also a key element of the fun.

Five major updates over 9 months of Early Access… Conquest Mode added

Since the start of Early Access in July 2025, the development team has added new characters, enemies, buildings, and UI improvements through five major content updates over approximately nine months, and introduced ‘Conquest Mode,’ which differs from the existing survival-focused gameplay. Conquest Mode is praised for expanding the scope of gameplay by allowing players to take control of the entire map while completing small-scale missions in various regions.

The official 1.0 version adds a large-scale boss battle, new Divine Beasts, secret special missions, new enemies, and a menu system. The development team described this version as “a new beginning, not an end,” also expressing their intention for continuous future updates.

“Outstanding Art, but Balance and Bugs Are Challenges”… Mixed Reviews from the Community

Community reaction to the launch is a mix of praise and disappointment. While many users highly appreciate the unique art style and hero-centric system, criticisms regarding balance issues and bugs are also consistently being raised. Some users have even expressed fatigue with the industry trend of repeatedly releasing 1.0 versions in an unpolished state.

On the other hand, overseas media outlets are paying attention to the development team’s continuous support efforts. In particular, the five major updates released during the Early Access period are being praised as examples demonstrating the development team’s attitude of actively incorporating community feedback.

A project that started from the dream of a Polish developer who envisioned Black & White 2

The starting point of CanCanCanAMan was simple. It was the childhood memory of a Polish developer who wanted to encounter a game like Black & White 2 again. This personal aspiration expanded into a team project involving indie developers from various countries, eventually bearing fruit as the unique title Gold Gold Adventure Gold.

The studio introduces itself as a “fresh game development team carefully cultivated under the blue light of a computer monitor.” The witty phrase, “Keep in a cool, dry place filled with a passionate community and vibrant creativity”—which seems to parody product packaging text—reads as a concise expression of the sense of humor and community-centric development philosophy that CanCanCanAMan pursues.
