• The debut work of the Greek 3-person indie studio SOTO Game Studio
  • Roguelite Focused on Attribute Synergy and Party Combinations to Launch in Early Access This Year

SOTO Game Studio, an indie game developer based in Athens, Greece, released a demo of its debut title , ‘Luminas: Parasite Reign,’ on Steam on March 26. The development team also plans to release an Early Access version later this year ahead of the official launch.

The game is a team-building roguelite where players form a party by combining cute creatures called ‘Lumina’ and solve battles using attribute synergies and skill combinations. The released demo version allows players to experience the first biome and a boss battle, as well as try out various ‘Lumina’ characters.

Cute but powerful… A team-building roguelike with Lumina

The game is set in Solaris, a land contaminated by parasites. Players must lead mysterious creatures called ‘Lumina’ to defeat endless waves of enemies and reclaim their lost homeland.

The key is to start the game by selecting one of the Luminas, each with unique attributes and abilities such as the fire-breathing dragon Pyropeep and the turtle Shelly, and then waking up sleeping Luminas found in boxes hidden throughout the map to complete a party of up to three people.

Combination is strategy… Synergy-focused build design

Luminas’ strategic points are determined by party composition. By combining each Luminas’ unique elemental abilities and upgrades, you can construct various build styles, such as area-of-effect attacks, single-target focused attacks, and team-wide support buffs.

Depending on how you combine the spells acquired during the leveling process, rare synergy skills may be activated, providing different strategic fun with every playthrough. Additionally, at the town base, you can purchase equipment and strengthen your skill tree to prepare for the next challenge.

Voxel-based 3D pixel art… A cheerful and vibrant fantasy worldview

Luminas: Parasite Rain implements a unique visual character by adopting a top-down perspective based on voxel-style 3D pixel graphics. Each region, including grasslands, volcanic craters, and glaciers, boasts bright and vibrant colors.

The cute appearances of the Luminas and intense magic effects blend together to maintain a bright and cheerful fantasy atmosphere even amidst the tension characteristic of roguelikes. Performance optimization is also noteworthy. Great effort was put into optimization, to the extent that it runs smoothly at 90 FPS on the Steam Deck.

It has secured stable performance capable of running smoothly at 90 FPS on the Steam Deck. Given that keywords emphasizing the visual atmosphere, such as ‘Colorful’, ‘Atmospheric’, and ‘Magic’, are prominently displayed in the Steam tags, it is evident that visuals are a crucial element in shaping the game’s identity.

Early Access Roadmap… Content Expansion Announced

The content currently available in the demo is just the beginning. In the Early Access and official release versions, 8 types of Luminas, 64 spells with infinite combination possibilities, over 90 equipable treasure items, 3 world map biomes with bosses for each biome, and Luminas-specific skill trees and evolution systems will be provided sequentially.

Marketing, Development, Creativity… A 3-Person Indie Studio United by Three Friends

SOTO Game Studio is a small studio founded by three friends who joined forces while working at an independent digital agency in Greece. With diverse backgrounds in marketing, development, and creative, the three created the studio’s first work based on a shared passion for the roguelite genre.

The Luminas: Parasite Rain demo is available for free on Steam, and you can get early notifications about the Early Access release by adding it to your wishlist.
