Mob Entertainment is once again capturing the attention of fans by releasing an additional uncensored expansion launch trailer for ‘Poppy Playtime: Chapter 5 – Broken Things,’ which was released on February 18.

The newly released video contains the opening sequence ‘Wrongside Outimals’ in the form of a live-action commercial, and additionally includes scenes of horrific experiments perpetrated by the prototype.

The cutaway sequences, where organisms and machines are intertwined, reveal the dark underbelly of Playtime Co. without filter, clearly conveying the atmosphere of this work, which is considered the darkest and most intense chapter in the entire series.

Into the True Heart of the Toy Factory… The Story of Chapter 5

Chapter 5 is a direct sequel to Chapter 4 and begins with a chase with Huggy Wuggy that continues from the end of the previous game. The appearance of Huggy Wuggy, chasing the player from beyond a massive iron gate, marks the return of a character that symbolized the horror of the early series.

In this chapter, the player must survive alone in the darkest zones of Playtime Co., separated from their companions. The core narrative of Chapter 5 is finally coming face-to-face with the ‘Prototype,’ who has been identified as the mastermind behind the entire series.

Once you evade the pursuit of the Hungry Wargie, you will obtain a new exploration tool called the ‘Glowby.’ Equipped with both flashlight and blacklight functions, this tool is essential for exploring dark areas, and you can subsequently acquire the GrabPack 3.0 and the ‘New Pressure Hand.’ With the addition of new GrabPack tools, environmental puzzles, and expanded exploration areas, the game offers a much larger playable space compared to its predecessor.

The core fun of the series, collecting lore, has also become even richer. Hidden collectibles such as Stuffy, which embodies the new Autimals, documents, cassette tapes, and VHS tapes are placed throughout, adding to the fun of uncovering Playtime Co.’s mysterious past.

Box office performance that broke the series’ all-time record

The launch performance of Chapter 5 is unprecedented in the history of the series. Immediately after release, it held the number one spot on the Steam Global Top Seller chart for over 24 hours and also ranked first as the most-watched game on Twitch on the day of release. First-day sales reached 175,000 copies, breaking the records of previous chapters by thousands.

The number of concurrent users also broke the all-time record. Compared to the peak of 25,128 concurrent users at the time of Chapter 4’s release, Chapter 5 recorded 52,866, more than double that number.

Currently, it maintains a ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam, with 81% of over 3,077 user reviews being positive. Reviewers cited the graphic presentation filled with dark spaces and old toys, tense chase sequences, and Prototype’s spine-chilling voice acting as its main strengths.

However, when Korean reviews are tallied separately, a ‘mostly negative’ rating appears, indicating somewhat mixed reactions in some regional communities.

The lineage of horror indie games that captivated 50 million players

The Poppy Playtime series has garnered a cumulative 50 million gamers worldwide since the release of its first chapter in 2021. Although it started as a small-scale indie horror project, it has grown into a global cultural phenomenon through the ceaseless theoretical analysis of fans and the enthusiasm of the online community.

With the signing of film adaptation contracts, collaborations with numerous IPs, and the expansion of the official merchandise lineup in addition to games, ‘Poppy Playtime’ has established itself as an entertainment brand beyond games.

“Chapter 5 represents a major leap forward in Poppy’s playtime. With every chapter, we have strived to deepen the world and raise the creative standards,” said Zack Bellanger, co-founder and CEO of Mob Entertainment. “This chapter takes the atmosphere and emotional tension to the next level.”

Poppy’s Playtime: Chapter 5 – Broken Things is currently available for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Console versions for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox are scheduled for release in 2026. The Chapter 1 base game is available for free download on Steam, while Chapter 5 is being sold as DLC for $19.99.
