Slime King Games’ debut title launches simultaneously on PC and consoles.
Adventure on a mysterious island filled with secrets and humor, complete with pixel art design.

Under The Island , the debut title from German indie developer Slime King Games, officially launched worldwide on PC and major console platforms on February 17, 2026. Developed in collaboration with publisher Top Hat Studios, the game is simultaneously playable on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC (Steam, GOG, etc.).

The girls’ adventure begins on the sinking island of “Clam Island.”

Under The Island is a top-down 2D action RPG with a nostalgic 90s feel, combining adventure, exploration, puzzles, and combat set on a mysterious island. Players take on the role of Nia, a young girl who migrates to the island. Together with local girl Avocado, they uncover the source of the crisis hanging over the island and struggle to change its fate. When it’s revealed that the island is destined to sink, the duo explore diverse locations and unravel its mysteries on their adventure.

The island boasts six distinct areas, each with its own unique challenges, including a frozen cave, a desert, a greenhouse, and a sawmill. Each area hides unique monsters, treasures, and puzzles. Enemies include vomit-inducing branches, digging wolves, and moving jars, all of which create charming and entertaining battles.

A structure where exploration without a set path, life and adventure intertwine

Combat focuses on a creative and humorous approach rather than simply pursuing difficulty. Starting with a hockey stick, players can utilize tools like shovels, trumpets, and even birds. There’s also a feeding system where animals befriend you and aid you on your adventures. A variety of minigames, such as finding lost cats or participating in cooking competitions, are also featured throughout the game.

90s pixel sensibility, the touch of an art director from Daedalic

The game’s visual style, implemented in classic top-down pixel art, is said to be reminiscent of classic 90s RPGs. Art director Simone Grünewald, who oversaw the design, is a veteran of the major German developer Daedalic Entertainment, having previously worked on titles such as “Ken Follett’s Pillars of the World” and the “Deponia” series.

Indie debut from German sibling developers who left major studios

Slime King Games, a small indie game studio led by siblings Simone and Johannes Grünewald, has released “Under The Island” as their first independent release. Leaving behind major studio experience to embark on an independent development adventure, the game has generated significant interest among indie game fans.

Immediately following its release, the game received positive reviews from Steam and console communities, with comments such as “a nostalgic ’90s adventure” and “a perfect blend of Zelda-inspired elements and open-world exploration.” There were also reactions from gamers who enjoyed turn-based RPGs and pixel art games, expressing high expectations even during the demo period.

‘Under The Island’ is currently on sale for 15% off on Steam to celebrate its release, and is also available for purchase on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.
