GoodDuck, an indie development team from Krafton’s Jungle Game Lab, will release their ambitious project, “Spacetime Shooter,” for free on Steam on February 5th. The game combines the familiar sniper shooting format with the unique mechanic of spacetime manipulation, offering a unique puzzle experience unlike anything seen in similar genres before.
A game that requires ‘thinking’ rather than simple reflexes
The core of the spacetime shooter is simple yet powerful: defeating all enemies with a single bullet. However, achieving this requires meticulous calculation and experimentation, not just quick sleight of hand. Players must freely rewind and advance time to find the optimal firing moment, and place “distortion fields” in space to intentionally warp the bullet’s trajectory.
While it may appear to be an action game, the actual gameplay is more like a puzzle. Each stage is approached like a math problem, and players design their own solutions through trial and error. The development team emphasizes that “creative thinking and a spirit of experimentation are key, rather than aiming skill.”
The core mechanism is Timeline manipulation and distortion field
The game’s originality can be seen in its two unique systems: timeline manipulation and distortion fields.
Timeline manipulation puts gamers in control of their timeline. They can preview enemy movements, freely move through the timeline, and capture the perfect moment when all enemies line up in a straight line.
The distortion field system turns space itself into a puzzle tool. Distortion fields placed by the player can warp bullet trajectories, enabling seemingly physically impossible shots. Enemies hidden behind obstacles, multiple targets separated by distance, and more can all be resolved with a single shot through strategic placement of the distortion field.
Geometric beauty and the thrill of puzzles
The development team focused on making the puzzle-solving process visually satisfying, beyond simply solving it. The sight of bullets elegantly curved through distortion fields, and the perfectly calculated trajectory of their bullets penetrating every enemy, maximize the sense of accomplishment upon completing the puzzle.
Each stage doesn’t have a single, fixed answer. Various solutions exist, depending on the player’s creativity, giving the game a high replay value.
Coming free on Steam on February 5th
It’s worth noting that the game is completely free. The GoodDuck team describes it as a “non-commercial project with no monetization,” and states that their goal is to “introduce the game to a wider audience and receive meaningful feedback.”
Born from the Krafton Jungle Game Lab training program, this project focuses on a pure gaming experience rather than commercial viability. Supporting five languages—English, Korean, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Spanish—it also broadens its reach to global gamers.
Become a sniper who masters time and space, designing the perfect shot. Spacetime Shooter will be available on Steam on February 5th.
