■ ‘Game of the Year’ Final Selection for Voice Simulation Game ‘Volcano’s Daughter’
■ ‘User Choice’ category where users directly select… 6 works including ‘Secureheart’ and ‘Abyss: Everlasting’ win awards
Smilegate’s social platform Stove announced the winners of the ‘2024 Stove Indie Awards’, one of the biggest indie game awards, on the 28th (Friday). The top prize, ‘Game of the Year’, went to ‘Volcano’s Daughter’ (developer Egg Hatcher Studio).
The nominees for the ‘2024 Stove Indie Awards’ include 27 works from various genres that were loved by indie game fans in 2024, including ‘Sand of Salzar’, ‘Old World’, ‘If Sunset’, ‘Saniyang Lab’, and ‘Volcano’s Daughter’. Among them, ‘Volcano’s Daughter’, a nurturing simulation game loved for its cute graphics, was selected as ‘Game of the Year’. ‘Volcano’s Daughter’ is Stove’s 1,000th release, and is a work that Stove directly provides in Korean.
The TOP 10 most loved by indie game fans in 2024 were awarded to games that achieved good results through Stove Koreanization, subculture indie games, and Stove Indie creative ecosystem, such as ‘If Sunset’, ‘Saniyang Lab’, and ‘Seokyuheart’. In addition, the ‘Frontier’ category, which is given to games with outstanding novel ideas, went to ‘Fake Book’ (developer: Banjiha Games), a mystery adventure game that unfolds on a virtual SNS.
In addition, a ‘User Choice’ category was newly established so that creators and users can give meaning to Stove Indie or look back on enjoyable moments. The User Choice category consisted of six categories, and approximately 2,000 users voted for each game. As a result, ‘Seokyu Heart (developer Bishojo Dev)’ was selected as ‘a game that shines even more with Sled users’, and ‘Abyss: Everlasting (developer Ignost)’ was selected as ‘the award-winning team that is glad to see you again’, and six other works were selected.
Among this year’s award winners, ‘Seokkuheart’ was selected as a booster pick for the ‘2023 Stove Indie Awards’, where users directly participated in the judging, and was a work that received much anticipation. This game was completed by communicating with Stove Indie users through ‘Smart Demo Life’ from the development stage, and achieved the feat of being selected not only as a TOP 10 at this year’s awards but also as a User Choice.
Smilegate CEO Yeo Seung-hwan said, “The Stove Indie Awards is a festival enjoyed by creators and users who have grown together while receiving much love at Stove Indie throughout the year,” and added, “We will continue to strive to provide diverse enjoyment to users and opportunities for creators to grow and succeed together within the platform.”
