■ From non-major students to working-level developers, a high competition rate of 12:1 confirms strong interest
■ Develop a project-based learning curriculum with Smilegate and Epic Games working-level staff

Smilegate Future Lab (hereinafter referred to as ‘Future Lab’) announced on the 15th (Wednesday) that it will conduct the Unreal Engine training program ‘UNSEEN.’

UNSEEN is an educational program co-planned by Smilegate and Epic Games Korea and aims to nurture talented Unreal Engine developers. The two companies signed an MOU in January and promoted UNSEEN program planning. 25 trainees were selected for this UNSEEN curriculum. The competition rate was 12:1, confirming the developers’ high expectations and interest in UNSEEN. UNSEEN will be held online and offline from March 10th to mid-July.

At UNSEEN, various programs, such as a programming curriculum that can enhance Unreal C++ capabilities and mutual learning among trainees, are prepared. The UNSEEN curriculum consists of a total of 4 levels. From understanding Unreal C++ programming (step 1) to understanding Unreal Engine gameplay framework (step 2), data-driven design techniques in Unreal Engine (step 3), and creating Unreal Engine multiplayer games (step 4). In addition, on the online learning platform dedicated to UNSEEN, a customized curriculum can be configured according to each student’s individual competency.

Also, UNSEEN is characterized by the fact that it consists of contents you need to know in the field, such as multiplayer game production and game optimization, to improve productivity. Especially noteworthy is the pair programming day for mutual learning. The pair programming day is expected to be a time for students to learn a practical sense by forming a group and solving problems in the field together.

Meanwhile, Future Lab conducted an onboarding program with an agile coach for students on the 10th and 11th before the implementation of UNSEEN. In addition to introducing the UNSEEN curriculum, a network with mentors and a community among students were created to provide time for discussions and collaboration in the process of solving problems.

During the onboarding period, students organized groups to conduct game development design workshops. In the workshop, trainees had time to specify the project goal and direction to develop the project to perfection for 4 months.

Director Oh Sook-hyeon of Future Lab said, “UNSEEN focused on supporting students to develop practical application capabilities by carrying out projects independently. Smilegate and Epic Games field developers and certified instructors will participate as mentors to provide professional and systematic learning opportunities.” It will be a great opportunity to acquire the basic skills of an Unreal Engine developer.”
