Unity, which provides a real-time 3D content creation and operation platform, announced on the 31st that it has released a teaser video for a new sample game ‘Gigaya’.
The puzzle platformer sample game ‘Gigaya’ is the work of the Unity ‘Gigaya’ development team, which consists of 15 creators in various fields such as programmers, artists, and designers. Through this teaser video, it can be seen that various tools and functions of Unity are linked to create a higher level game.
‘Gigaya’ was unveiled as a sample game project at GDC 2022, and features such as URP (Universal Render Pipeline) and modular character controller that combine cross-platform portability and popularity. It can be used flexibly on various platforms, making it possible to implement an optimal platformer game.
In particular, the fact that the unique cartoon-style graphics and vivid game world were realized more realistically using URP drew the attention of developers. The ‘GIGAYA’ team used functions such as decals, shader graphs, VFX graphs, and post processing effects to express a more dynamic game world. In addition, it is characterized by mainly utilizing scriptable objects, rigid body physics, and animation to improve the feeling of operation.
Through this project, Unity also introduced a workflow solution that allows game developers to work on multiple scenes simultaneously, avoid merging and collisions, and shed light on the entire game creation process.
Developed with the Unity Core Engineering Group, ‘Gigaya’ will be the first Unity demo to go through a full product lifecycle and release as a free sample game on Steam. After completion, we plan to release it for free so that more developers can get tips from the production process.
Unity Korea CEO Kim In-sook said, “Giga-Gaya is a case in which not only the technical improvement of game development but also the difficulties in communication and cooperation experienced in the game development process due to the recent prolonged Corona 19 have been solved innovatively by introducing Unity’s own workflow solution.” “By releasing GIGAYA on Steam, we hope to suggest solutions that can be more helpful to game developers and further help all creators grow.”
Unity’s new sample game ‘Gigaya’ is scheduled to be released within this year, and the game, assets, and source code are provided free of charge to all users. You can check out the teaser video for ‘Gigaya’ on the Unity Korea YouTube channel.
