An original Bullet Heaven roguelike combining gardening and combat
Debut work by a German solo indie developer… Scheduled for Steam Early Access in 2026

Lawnpocalypse, a bullet heaven roguelike currently under development by German-based solo indie developer Cryptic Avian, will be released on Steam Early Access in 2026.

The game progresses in a unique way that combines the daily routine of mowing the lawn, trimming bushes, and tidying up the garden with the fun of build combinations characteristic of the roguelike genre. Players must reclaim the garden overrun by mutated creatures by combining various weapons, upgrades, and trinkets.

A game that literally implements “wipe them all out.”

The concept of Lonepocalypse is concise and ingenious. It literally implements the core fantasy of the Bullet Heaven genre, ‘mow them down,’ into the actual game.

The weapon the gamer possesses is a riding lawnmower. The goal is not simply to defeat enemies, but to restore the garden by eliminating the mutated creatures that have taken over it.

Strange creatures such as mutated slugs and snails appear, and players must clean the garden while dealing with a constant stream of enemies. The game’s most significant feature is its structure, where combat and cleaning proceed simultaneously as a single action.

No need to wait… Providing clear goals from the start

The developer stated that they created Lonepocalypse to address two complaints felt regarding existing bullet heaven genres. The first is the lack of direction in the early stages. In most similar games, gamers must wander around the map without a specific goal in the beginning, waiting for their build to be completed.

However, Ronpocalypse solved the problem by presenting a clear goal of tidying up the garden from the start. Even in the early stages when the combat build is not yet complete, cleaning itself provides continuous rewards and feedback, ensuring the flow is not interrupted and offering a continuous ‘task’.

The second point is the scalability of the upgrade system. Instead of stacking dozens of items, the developers chose to limit the number of items that can be held simultaneously to five or six and significantly enhance the effects of individual items. Thanks to this, gamers can quickly understand the direction of a build, and choosing to change strategy mid-game becomes a more meaningful decision.

From exploding weeds to healing pickles… an ingenious trinket system

Another fun aspect of Lonepocalypse is the Trinket system. It is full of ingenious and quirky effects, such as causing an explosion just by touching a weed, or turning enemies into pickles to eat and restore health.

You can also employ a snowballing strategy by stacking slam and splash damage, or by investing heavily in high-risk, economical trinkets to complete an overwhelming build in the late game. A unique fun element of this game is that as you continue to upgrade, projectiles fill the screen and the actual garden sweeping naturally speeds up.

Hand-drawn garden maps, rare snail varieties, and fashion

Each region features a handcrafted layout with a unique theme, enemies, and objectives, offering a fresh experience every time. Rare and hard-to-find snail variants also appear, some hinting at hidden stories within the world and secret Easter eggs.

Unlike other Bullet Heaven games that offer variety through various characters, ‘Lonepocalypse’ is designed to allow players to change their play style by using various lawnmowers centered around a single protagonist.

Completing challenges also provides customization elements that allow you to customize your gnome character by unlocking hats, mustaches, beard styles, and more.

I wanted to create a game that didn’t exist… The debut work of a German solo developer

Lonepocalypse is the debut title of German-based solo indie game developer Cryptic Avian. The developer stated that he is a fan of the bullet heaven genre, such as ‘Vampire Survivor’ and ‘Brotato’, and set out to develop the game to personally address the shortcomings he felt while enjoying the genre for a long time.

He handled art, programming, and game design all by himself, yet garnered attention from 80.lv, a media outlet specializing in game development, for his unique game identity and UI presentation.

‘Ronpocalypse’ supports over 12 languages, including Korean, and is currently available for wishlisting on Steam.
