The mobile game “Drifting Away in Time – Korean Idle RPG,” developed by indie game developer Tukan Project, is garnering significant attention, topping the Google Play Store popularity charts. Selected as a recipient of the 2025 Content Creative Talent Partnership Project, hosted by the Korea Creative Content Agency and operated by Gemblo Company, the game has rapidly built a fan base since its release, solidifying the appeal of the idle simulation game genre on Korean users.

This project, which has been receiving increasing attention for successfully incorporating the specialized subject matter of Korean history into the game under the systematic support of the Content Creation Talent Accompanying Project, is evaluated as a representative success story that shows that domestic indie game developers can also develop competitive content with government support.

‘Drifting Through Time’ is a game based on major historical events and figures in Korean history from the Paleolithic Age to the modern era. Players travel back in time using a time machine to develop the main character and historical figures, and embark on a journey to experience various historical events firsthand.

The game’s greatest feature is that it increases immersion by adding fantasy elements to historical facts, and leads users on an exciting historical exploration beyond simple learning. It is also designed to be easily accessible to anyone regardless of age or gender with a simple growth mechanism and intuitive UI/UX similar to the recently popular idle games.

The Tukang Project team analyzed the factors behind their success, saying, “As an indie game developer, achieving game success was no easy feat. However, through perseverance, we were able to effectively incorporate the theme of Korean history into the game, and this seems to have appealed to idle game users.” They also expressed their pride, saying, “We take great pride in the fact that users can naturally learn about historical events through the game.”

In addition, the Tukan Project explained that they put the utmost effort into incorporating the philosophy that “history is not something to be learned, but something to be experienced” during the development of “Drifting in Nanse,” and that their goal was to enable users to learn Korean history naturally through the game and have fun in the process.
